FAQ
- What is integrative medicine? functional medicine? holistic medicine?
Integrative medicine is a holistic approach that combines conventional medicine with complementary therapies to treat the mind, body, and spirit. Integrative medicine emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between the provider and patient.
Functional Medicine addresses complex, chronic diseases by considering symptoms, lifestyle choices, and root causes, including unique individual experiences, genetics, and health history. Functional medicine is a patient-centered approach to understanding and addressing individual systemic issues in a search for optimal balance and wellness.
Holistic medicine is any approach that considers the whole person, (body, mind, and spirit), for health and wellness. Holistic medicine emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit to treat and prevent illness.
- Is all integrative medicine/functional medicine/holistic medicine the same?
All integrative, functional, and holistic medicine is not the same. Providers have different training, certification, licensure, and experience that impacts their approach to patient care. Providers may also have a “narrow” focus in treating only certain health issues or a “broad” focus in addressing many different health issues. Patients should spend time exploring what integrative, functional, and integrative medicine means to each provider and how that provider would address patient care.
- How do patients access SFM’s options?
Prospective patients interested in accessing one of SFM’s options need to complete the corresponding application packet that is reviewed by Dr. Sparks to determine her ability to assist the patient in achieving their stated health objectives. If prospective patients are accepted by Dr. Sparks, they need to complete paperwork prior to being scheduled.
- What are the costs associated with SFM’s different options?
- The Holistic Clinical Review ($495) is a one-time visit for patients interested in Dr. Sparks’ holistic perspective on their diet, lifestyle, and health history. It includes the completion of a FM Timeline, including exposures, stressors, and personal narrative. It does not include lab ordering, referrals, prescriptions, or prescription refills. Continued care at SFM requires the Functional Medicine Program, which has additional costs and fees.
- The Functional Medicine Program requires a one-time $300 registration fee and 1) A $150 monthly fee to access SFM’s FM Platform; 2) Office visit charges, which may or may not be billed to insurance; 3) The cost of specialty laboratory testing utilized in functional medicine; 4) The cost of supplements recommended and; 5) The cost of complementary services recommended.
- The Cash Only Option ($1,195) is a three-visit package that includes an initial evaluation, an ART session, and a follow-up visit. Access to the FM Platform is included for 30 days. Additional follow-up visits are available for $150.
